So, I like chimneys...
... in fact, I like them so much, if I couldn't make models with crooked, ragged chimneys it would have been a deal-breaker, for me. They add a little extra work, true, but in exchange for that you...

Awesome. I love the colors, the weathering is particularly well done. And the sagging roof too. Where did get the roof pieces?
View ArticleRe: So, I like chimneys...
Thanks a lot! The colours were Reeves Artists Acrylics. I used yellow ochre for the stone-work base coat, then an uneven wash of raw umber, and then a dry-brush of sand. The roof is 380 micron card,...

What I like best about this model is that the painting, wash, and dry brush seem to make the stones "blend" very well together. What I mean is, I hardly see the seams from the individual fieldstone...

I also really like the colors on this. It has a very "natural" look that I hardly ever see. The other weathering is very nice as well, especially the wooden floor. Thanks, Bruce Hirst

Thanks guys. Bruce, it wouldn't have happened without you! Cheers, 2RM.

Very nice...the colors are great and blend the whole project nicely. I really like the "sword" over the front door - very cool touch
View ArticleRe: So, I like chimneys...
The sword came from the GW mordheim accessory sprue. It's the only non HA proprietory piece in the model, and I put it in to give the model a point, a raison d'etre. I'm glad you like it!

I love the weathering. It feels like an old blacksmiths shop for sure! I like how you designed your own building to start with and didnt build a cookie cutter from bruce. Thats how I like to roll too....

Great paint work, and the flashing is a nice touch as well. I saw some flat terracotta roof tiles on a cathedral in National Geographic recently, and was thinking that would be a nice look for a Hirst...

You know you've done a great job when Bruce himself comments on it. Looks very lived in and that really shows your attention to detail. Well Done!

Thanks, everyone, for your kind words. You've given me all the encouragement I need to work on the next project, which is already taking shape in my mind, but needs the detail worked out. All the...

It is always nice to see something other than dry-brushed grey.

did you use some kind of flock ass moss or is that the paint job? It looks superb the model, stealing your paint idea's Kay
View ArticleRe: So, I like chimneys...
It's all paint. I'm going to try flock with the next model, and see how it looks. I'd like to have a moss/lichen effect on the roofing, and maybe some tufts of grassy stuff at the base. But I don't...

That is quite an accomplishment. The best painting skills I have seen so far. Well done. Mrs. G
